Was Bonn...

During this trip I took the opportunity to schedule in a visit to Bonn.

In part because it was a return invite from a former couchsurfer. And well it just fitted in better to train from Strasbourg on my way towards Brugge to London.
 
It had been talked up as a potential visit city also because I had already been to Cologne. I'm always after somewhere new.

Bonn itself was good for the day visit. I really didn't realise before visiting it's importance in the life of Beethoven. But by the time I left I understood how he means everything to Bonn Tourism.

However the highlight for me was actually staying with my former couchsurfer and her family. I did learn how little German I have picked up over the time of my course, and how easily second language knowledge disappears when you don't have any practice. But still I found the experience enjoyable. Incidently this wasn't their place. It's just a historical building from their village. Yes the photo worked out perfectly.


Of note I also found a school near the university. It seems legitimate. Didn't meet any of the students.

In December 2023 I had the opportunity to add to my exploration of the Philippines. A week away tacked onto a work trip. Within this week I planned out a one side destination trip. There was this bright idea to go to Brighton Beach

In visiting London I stayed with my friend Darren. Heck Daz and I have a tradition of meeting up every time I make it to Europe. This time it was somewhat a home game for Daz. Not staying elsewhere. But it doesn't mean we didn't go elsewhere. We went to Brighton. He had friends there, and had never been to Brighton. So a short train journey for lunch and visit to Brighton Beach was put into motion. As Australians we all know that technically they don't have beaches in Britain. Either by "white sand" rule, or "it's not warm enough to be considered going to a beach" rule. Look those rules up if you want. Yes maybe I made them up. But it does explain why UK has so many residents in Bondi Beach. But I have proof. See these photos. This is their beach. Pebbles. And I'm not talking fine pebbles. How to get free chocolate in Brussels

These are the easy instructions on how to get free chocolate in Brussels. Step 1 Carry a camera. Step 2 Walk into Chocolate shop. Then a sales assistant will likely be dashing for the free sample tray. At which point you need only say thank you as you browse and consider a purchase. Then there is a 3rd step. Repeat Step 2. I did it a lot. In fact I became a chocolate snob. If I didn't get a reaction from the sales assistant I'd walk. Brussels was great. I went for Beer and Chocolate. Found both of them. On top of this I found Belgium Waffles. Although I could hardly see my waffle under all the chocolate. Don't be concerned. It's okay. I also had fruit on the waffle which made it a healthy option.
