He wanted to visit a few distilleries. Said he knew a few people who would be keen to show us around. As I learnt they were very keen to have him visit. His word of mouth as the lead taster of a few local whisky societies would help get a foothold for their whisky. This is very valuable grassroots marketing when you're a fledgling industry only just starting to the profile to start a boutique Whiskey Tour Tourist Trail. What it meant to me was that we received the extensive tour everywhere we went.
I write a travel blog for my own memories. If I don't write things down like this article I would struggle remembering all I visited. I don't want to forget in 30 years time I was one of the early ones who followed the Tasmanian Whisky Trail. In about 3 years time do not want to forget about asking for a bottle of the Overeem my mate tasted. He nearly asked for the distiller's hand in marriage.
I enjoyed the touring but heck who am I kidding. I was the driver and could have enjoyed it more being the drinker on the trail. But my whisky taste buds aren't as developed, and this deal with my friend meant I got to tag along to the distilleries. Hearing the stories, and getting inside knowledge on what was very tasty is all I needed. I still got to try a select few in a feeble attempt to recognise wet hay, and almond as a flavour.
Overall the goal of this trip was achieved in that it was a cool theme to travel through Tasmania on. And we did get to see to a Brisbane Lions AFL game in Launceston. After all Steve moved here right after getting his season ticket which I now have full rights to. Only fair he gets to see the team play also during the season. Be it not using the season ticket.
Catching a game of Australian Rules Football in Launceston ("Lonnie") means I've marked off another stadium off the list.
